Project Manager

Democratic Commission for Human Development (DCHD) a human rights education, advocacy and research organization is searching for competitive staff to oversee and manage the implementation of the project “Ending All Physical and Humiliating Punishment (PHP). The project aims at reducing physical & humiliating punishment in communities, homes and schools and inclusion of positive disciplining in formal education setting. The project manager will be required to undertake and  fulfil a host of responsibilities ranging from campaigning, advocacy, media management and relationship building.

5 years of experience in project management, preferably managing human rights or education projects

Skills Required

Proven leadership skills

Analytical and strong organizational skills

Excellent Communication Skills with proficiency in English and Urdu

Training Teachers as Focal Person for Psychosocial Support for Children in Government Schools

Project Introduction

Over the past three years, DCHD, with the support of Save the Children, has been working on Eliminating Physical and Humiliating Punishment in all settings. The project incorporates various community engagement and multi-stakeholder engagement techniques and tools to create a holistic and systemic change across all segments. Over the past two years DCHD has been working with teachers and SMC members of 20 government schools on the concepts of Child Rights, Child Protection and Positive Disciplining. DCHD has conducted a series of training workshops to create a holistic and thorough understanding of the issues pertaining to Physical & Humiliating Punishment

COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the education system in the country. An almost 6-month long closure of schools’ children, in particular of low-income groups, have been greatly affected. This situation has resulted in a multitude of psychosocial issues and concerns which will need to be addressed by teachers, with students resuming school.

Scope & Deliverables

DCHD has identified two (2) teachers from each school, from the target 20 schools, to be trained as focal persons to provide psychosocial support for students. Teachers will be trained in two groups, according to gender, thus two workshops will be conducted by DCHD, the details of which are as follows:

  • Workshop 1 (4 days):
    • 28 male teachers from 14 Boys Schools
    • 19-22 November
    • 3-days: 2-7PM
    • 1-day: 9AM-5PM
  • Workshop 2 (3 days):
    • 12 female teachers from 6 Girls Schools
    • 4-6 December
    • 9AM-5PM

The lead trainer and consultant is expected to

  • Design and plan the workshop(s) as per above mentioned plan
  • Create a detailed workshop Program covering the following themes:
  • Key concepts and principles of Psycho-social support;
  • What is Psychological First Aid
  • How Children react to a crisis situation; (Coping and Resilience)
  • The role of teachers in promoting Psycho-social well being
  • Communicating with children
  • How to manage challenging behaviour in the class room
  • Design and develop all Presentations, Lectures, Exercises, Resource Material & Handouts
  • Deliver the workshop(s)
  • Submit a short report on Trainers Feedback and Workshop Proceedings

Experience & Requirements

  • 3-5-year experience of training in Psycho-social support, preferably a Psychologist.
  • Well-versed in English & Urdu
  • Spoken Punjabi is an added benefit

The duration of assignment is total 10 days starting from 15th November to 10th December
